There is a coming apostolic revolution. In many ways it has already begun. It will revive us—restoring us to the life of the early church. It will cause us to return to the principles, practices, and power of the book of Acts.
The church will not finish with less power than it began. The church began in revival. It will not end in ritual.
One of the distinctive features of early Christianity is the significant presence of apostolic ministry. In the book of Acts, teachers are mentioned once. Pastors are eluded to six times. Evangelists are mentioned four times. Prophets are referred to four times.
In contrast, the ministry of the apostle is mentioned at least thirty times in the book of Acts. That is at least five times more than the other ministry offices.
For the modern church to be restored to the power of the early church there must be a resurgence of the ministry of the apostle.
What is an apostle? Are there still apostles today?
The word apostle means “sent one”. As you may already know, Jesus brought the transforming realities of God’s kingdom to earth, but His ministry on earth didn’t end after His ascension to heaven. Following His resurrection, Jesus “sent” His twelve apostles to continue His ministry.
Although no modern apostle has the authority to write scripture, the Bible teaches that apostles are still being “sent” today. (Ephesians 4:11-16)
Modern apostles help continue Jesus’ ministry in modern times and help bring the transforming realities of the kingdom of God to earth in our day and age.
Why do we need the ministry of the apostle?
Historical records use the greek word apostolos, translated as apostle in English, to describe Pontius Pilate. He was an “apostle” of Rome. What did Pilate do on behalf of Rome? He brought an invading and occupying force into a region to establish and enforce Roman rule, law, power, and culture.
Christian apostles bring an invasion of heaven into earth—they seek to establish heaven’s rule, law, power, and culture in the hearts of men and women.
Apostles are all about, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, in earth, as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10) Apostles help establish a heavenly government in people’s hearts, they remind people to live with a heavenly mindset, to accept the call of being “no longer of this world”, but to still take meaningful action while in this world. Apostles awaken and equip apostolic people. Apostles act to awaken and equip people to help make earth love like, believe like, behave like, and look like heaven.
What Does it Mean to be an Apostolic Person?
Being an apostolic person means awakening to the transforming realities of God’s kingdom and being sent to take your part in Jesus’ ministry in the earth today. The bottom line is that every person and every church is meant to be apostolic in some way or another.
Just like prophets equip people to hear God’s heart, just like evangelists help people bring the gospel to those that don’t know Christ, just like pastors equip people to care for the church, just like teachers equip people to receive revelation from scripture, apostles awaken people to the transforming realities of the kingdom of heaven and equip people to cause heaven to invade earth.
Apostles help people and churches be all about, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, in earth, as it is in heaven.”
What is an Apostolic Revolution?
The kingdom of God is both now and not yet. Both apostles and apostolic people help establish the kingdom of God that is actively present and hasten the kingdom of God that is yet to come. We are all called to go, but in order to go we must be sent. Apostles help people become apostolic by accepting their part of Jesus’ mandate to “Go… into all the world… and make disciples of all the nations.” (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15)
When people think of making disciples of nations they often think of someone doing Christian work abroad. However, to disciple nations, the church must become empowered to disciple whole cultures, to bring spiritual transformation at a cultural and national level, both at home and abroad.
When all this happens, we call it an APOSTOLIC REVOLUTION!
Now, more than ever, it’s time for heaven to invade earth and for you to be a part of it!
Please pray for us this month! We’ll be ministering in Washington, Mississippi, Florida, and Louisiana.
Until next time, may you have more kingdom reality, the joy-life of fellowshipping in the family of God, and “MAS FUEGO!” (MORE FIRE!”)
